A growing body of literature reveal that a financially literate population will is able to make the proper decisions, then the aspect of Islamic Financial literacy is compulsory. Understanding the urging need of our country, the Maldives Capacity Development and Governance Institute (MCDGI) has taken steps to conduct a nation-wide survey.

This survey report will enable the stakeholders to take measures in the future to improve the Islamic Finance literacy and financial inclusion in the country. This is a first of its kind survey in our country to take place under the leadership of MCDGI Chairman. This will be conducted by our international Lead Consultant and MCDGI Local Team.

Mariyam Shahuneeza Naseer

Dr. Mariyam Shahuneeza Naseer is an Education and Research Consultant and has completed her postdoctoral research in quality assurance in Higher Education. She has a Doctor of Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment specializing in Algebra. She is currently the managing editor of International Journal of Applied Science and Innovation Technology. In addition, she has presented at various international conferences and published in refereed international journals.

Assoc. Prof Dr. Aishath Muneeza

Associate Professor Dr Aishath Muneeza of INCEIF is one of the key founder of Islamic finance in Maldives. She is the first female Deputy Minister of Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the first chairperson of the Hajj Pilgrimage Fund of Maldives. Currently, she is the chairperson of Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance. She has published books and numerous articles on Islamic Finance and her research areas include legal studies & corporate governance applicable to Islamic Finance. She structured the first corporate sukuk, sovereign private sukuk and Islamic Treasury instruments for the government of Maldives and she has played the key role in offering of Islamic finance products by more than eleven institutions. She also designed the first Islamic microfinance scheme offered in Maldives. She sits in Shariah advisory committees of financial institutions offering Islamic financial services such as Islamic hire purchase and takaful.

Ms. Mariyam Shafeega

CFO in a leading private sector company in the Maldives. She was the Project Coordinator for the first National Survey on Gender Diversity and Empowerment in the Maldives which was conducted under the Grant Aid of the Government of the United Kingdom funded through the British High Commission, Colombo.

He is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant by profession and a Banker, Trainer and Writer by practice in the field of Islamic Banking & Finance since 2006. He is experienced in the field of Management Accounting, Financial Control, Strategic Planning, Regulatory Compliance, Corporate Strategy, Training & Career Development in Islamic Banking & Finance industry. He is currently serving as a Manager – Knowledge Marketing & Financial Inclusion at Amana Bank PLC, Sri Lanka. Previously, Muath was attached to the Finance Control Department at Barwa Bank, Doha – Qatar during 2009 – 2011. Muath is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) – the UK, Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments (CISI) - UK and Associate Fellow Member of Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance (IIBI) – UK, having successfully completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic Banking and Insurance. Currently, he is reading his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of West of England (UWE) – UK. He was awarded the “Rising Islamic Finance Personality of the Year 2013” Award at the Sri Lankan Islamic Banking & Finance Industry (SLIBFI) awards night and was honored as an inspiring ‘Lecturer & Mentor’ for the IB&F students by FGA – Sri Lanka.
